Snohomish Health District

The Snohomish Health District was created in 1959 as an independent special purpose district responsible for public health in Snohomish County. We are separate from Snohomish County government, although it provides financial support and is an essential partner in many functions.

Our main office is located in Everett, in the Rucker Building, which we own . We also have leased clinic space in Lynnwood. Directions.

A 15-member Board of Health oversees policy and budget development for the local health district. All five Snohomish County Council members sit on the Board of Health, together with 10 city council members or mayors representing the cities and towns. Public meetings of the Board of Health are held monthly.

Gary Goldbaum, MD, MPH, serves as the director and health officer of the Snohomish Health District. Peter M. Mayer is the deputy director and chief operating officer.

Strategic planning and vision

The Snohomish Health District provides a wide range of programs and services that protect and promote the public health with particular focus on preventing injury and disease. As government funding for public health has been reduced since the recession of 2008, we have worked to focus our programs and resources on public health essentials and community needs.

Our work is guided by:
Vision: Healthy Lifestyles. Healthy Communities.
Mission: To improve the health of individuals, families and communities through disease prevention, health promotion and protection from environmental threats.

Foundational public health services, an ongoing effort to identify, prioritize and fund essential public health services for every county in Washington. Health Officer Gary Goldbaum serves on several work groups involved in this effort.

Health District annual report

Each spring we publish an annual report looking back on the achievements and challenges of the prior year. The annual report also includes a summary of budget and financial information.
